If you’re
a follower or reader of my blog, you may remember previous discussions around
what I am about to tell you. This is not the first time it happened. If I am
counting correctly, this is the fifth time and it is almost the same chain of
events every time it happens.
This is not a ghost performing some mysterious feat. This is part of what is known as a residual haunting or event. There are countless reported residual haunting events around the world so I am not alone in it.
What’s
the difference between a residual event and a ghost/spirit actually doing something?
I knew you’d ask that.
A ghost
knocking on your door, taking your belongings, levitating coffee cups, speaking
when you ask them a question are just a few examples of a real event happening
right now. They are interacting with you in some way. A residual event is when
you witness ghostly/paranormal activity but it is more like watching or hearing
events unfold and there is no direct interaction with a living human. It is
like a recorded event that happened at some previous point but continues to
play and replay at various intervals. If you’re lucky, you just might see or hear
it.
Two
great examples to explain this better are the following:
In a
house not far from me, there was a ghost bride who used to walk down the stairs
in her wedding gown as years ago her fiancé drowned at sea before they could be
married. She was seen by the residents of the house many times over the years
doing this same thing every time—they would see her at the top of the stairs in
her gown, she would walk down those stairs and disappear. She did not interact
with anyone.
Secondly,
one day I heard mysterious hammering on the end of my house. This incident was
in a previous blog post. I was home alone. No work was being done on my house
at that time. It continued on for some time and I was able to record it on my
phone. I investigated it thoroughly, going outside and actually looking around
everywhere. No visible source could be seen. It was not coming from a neighbor.
It was actually happening on the kitchen end of my house. Do I think a ghost
was wielding a hammer and banging on the outside of my house? No I do not. Do I
think a past event, possibly when the house was being built in 1871, became “imprinted
in time” and was being played back on that day? Yes I do.
I want
to interject here and say there are absolutely countless reports of apparitions
of vehicles: cars, trucks, trains, you name it-- from all around the world. They
are real with a lot of witnesses. These could be residual or real time ghosts.
Without investigating each one, it’s hard to label which category they fall
into.
There
are two types of phantom cars on my property.
One is
the Forerunner Phantom Car. This has been seen twice by 3 witnesses. This creepy
phantom car always shows up after dark and within a short time, someone in the
family or close to the family had died.
More
info on that one here in a previous blog post:
The
second type is the Daytime Phantom Car. The first time it was encountered, we
just thought, oh that was weird. By the second and third time, we knew
something paranormal was happening and named it the Phantom Car.
Which
brings me to the events of Friday. June 19, 2026, which I now refer to as The
Phantom Car Strikes Yet AGAIN.
I was
home alone on this beautiful summer day. I had taken a vacation day from work,
slept in a bit, had a leisurely breakfast and was just about to get in the
shower. If you are familiar with my house, when the bathroom was installed in
this antique house in 1960-whatever, my uncle decided the best place for the
bathroom was off the kitchen (which still irks me to this day). The bathroom
window therefore, looks out onto the side yard with a partial view of the
driveway. On this day, I had cracked the window open a bit. So as I was about
to turn the shower on, I clearly heard a car in the driveway. My neighbors use
my driveway to get to their house and if a window is open when they go by, of
course you can hear their car. However, on Friday when I heard the car, it was
only for about 5-10 seconds, so I knew it was not them going by as you can hear
them for longer than that. That told me someone had actually come in my
driveway to my house.
I
looked out the bathroom window but couldn’t see anyone. I got dressed quickly
and went into the kitchen to see who might be in the part of my driveway not
visible from the bathroom window. No one was there. No one was anywhere.
When I
say I heard the car, I mean I heard tires on the gravel. Not a car engine—another
clue it was not my neighbor. In two of the previous Phantom Car incidents, car
doors could be heard closing and in one of the incidents, “people” could be
heard talking. Last Friday, I only heard the tires on the gravel.
It
would be like hearing a piano playing in your house but you don’t own a piano.
Realizing
it must have been the Phantom Car again, I continued on with my business and
showered. After my shower, a second curious incident occurred.
My 1960’s
bathroom has an old door that opens up into the kitchen. My mother always had
an old door stop propping it open when it wasn’t in use as the door will not
stay open on it’s own. This drove me nuts because who wants a view of a toilet
when you are in a kitchen? I don’t but it didn’t seem to bother her. There are
rare times however, when you do need the door open---sometimes to let the steam
out after a particularly hot shower, etc. So I still have a doorstop sitting
there. However, because of my aversion to the whole toilet view from the
kitchen thing, I never prop the door open in the day. NEVER. And last Friday
after my shower, I know for a fact I didn’t prop it open. I showered, the door was
shut, and I went upstairs to get dressed etc.
I came
back into the kitchen about 30 minutes later. And there was my bathroom door
propped open with the doorstop.
It was
precariously propped open—not with the doorstop fully in front of the door but
nudged over just far enough so that it caught the edge of the door and there it
was, open and not as I had left it.
I have
the same questions you do. Was the driver and/or passengers of the Phantom Car
also in the house and responsible for the opening of the bathroom door? Can
that even happen since the Daytime Phantom Car is probably a residual thing,
and the doorstop in front of the bathroom door seems like an interactive ghost
thing?
It
could have all stemmed from one paranormal event. Or it could have been two
separate things. I honestly have no idea.
To be
honest, I am just glad I witnessed the Daytime Phantom Car again as I find it
one of the more intriguing aspects of my haunted house.
Footnote: Before re-reading this final draft out loud, I told my ghosts I was writing about them and they should gather round. At the last paragraph, the lights in the room I am typing this in, blinked a few times.
